No Place Like Home

I’ve been checking out a ton of real estate around the country because of my job, and I love the United States of America! There are beautiful places from coast to coast. Northern California is a gorgeous area with rolling hills, large lots and beautiful vineyards. Charleston South Carolina is also beautiful with its magical historic feel.

But when it all comes down to it, there is no place like home. Home is Logan, Utah. Here I can experience four beautifully diverse seasons each year. I get the beauty of the mountains, the joy of large open fields, and I have both fantastic summer and winter entertainment. The people here are easy to become life close friends with, and the activities are endless. So if I ever end up settling outside of Logan Utah, you can bet that one day I will be back searching Homes For Sale Logan Utah.

Welcome 2012 and Welcome to the Salisbury’s

2012 is looking to be the best year I’ve lived! I’m absolutely stoked for the fantastic things that will come our way this year!

Along with the new year for us comes our new home. It’s nothing huge, but it’s definitely going to be a very special place for us. We are now owners of a condo, and have plenty of projects that we have undertaken there. Each one of those projects is underway as I speak, and only one of them is finished. I’m going to talk all about that in the a new blog area called “Condo Renovation.” It will focus on things which we have done to make this condo fantastic!

Other things that I’m very excited about – this year I will meet my brother-in-law for the very first time. He’s been on a mission in the Dominican Republic during the entire time that Jessica and I have been dating.

Jessica has returned to blonde this year, so that will give her another extra thing to be happy about. There are just plenty of great things to look forward in 2012, including the Eastern Caribbean! Who knows, maybe there will be a kid on the way this year too.

We Bought a Condo

We won’t be renters anymore!!

Well, that is as soon as the loan gets approved and such. But we’re pretty excited about this! We are going to be first time home owners of a nice place which will be cozy for the two of us. And not only that, it will give us plenty of projects for the next while. There is plenty to fix up on this condo to make it live up to Jessica standards. Removing the tile in the kitchen to put in hardwood may be difficult though… but I’m sure I’ll blog about that later.

We have had fun living where we’ve lived, but it’s been a cold dark basement! I’m excited to have a window that will actually have a view of some blue sky, instead of a window wale! The projects are going to be fun for us during the cold winter months, as it will be plenty to do on the interior of our home. And I’m sure that the adventures of making a house payment, HOA payment, and trying to maintain the area and ourselves will also be fun! We’re praying this all turns out for the best! WOO HOO!

Life is too short

So chances are I’m 1/4 done with my life.  And I’ve come to realize, that it isn’t long enough.  There is a lot to do!  Besides all of the career accomplishments and things to learn that there is in life, there’s a lot to see.  And I don’t just want to see all the parts of the world, I want to experience them.  In order to do that, I need to live until I’m 500.  I’d like to submerge me and my wife into all the different cultures of the world for at least a year or two.  In the spring we are going on a cruise, and I’m excited for that – but that will only let us scratch the surface on a beautiful part of the world.  Instead, I want to get to know what the people are like, learn how they live, what makes them happy and moves them, and then start seeing and thinking as they see.  Then I want to do it again somewhere else… life is just to short.

I’m a Latter-day Saint

I’d like to take a minute to share what I believe, and express how it directs my life.  I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormons.  There are plenty of bits of confusion regarding what a Mormon is, so before you let that give you any weird ideas that are out there (and believe me, I know they’re out there.  I was a missionary for two years…) let me tell you what I am and what I believe.

First of all, I believe that Jesus Christ is our savior.  He lived a perfect life and he died for the world.  He has made the way for us to return to live with God.

I believe that families are together in this life, and that they come first.  In fact, I believe that families are at the very center of God’s plan, and that we will continue to be with our families after this life.  That is perhaps my biggest motivation in life to be a Christ like person.

I believe that following Jesus is a life long task, and that I’ll try to do as he would do throughout my life.  When I don’t do what he would do, I can correct my course, he can help me, and I can become what he would intend for me to be.  And I think what he intends for me to be is a person who loves every person on Earth, serves willingly, gives freely, keeps my word, and works hard to influence others to live good lives as well.  I also believe that respecting others is extremely important, and as the first prophet of our church, Joseph Smith, said “If you can’t accept our religion, please accept our hospitality”.

I believe that everybody can learn for themselves what is true, and I invite everybody to do that.  The best way is to read the Book of Mormon.

If you want to know more about the church, then go straight to the source.  The church has different websites, if you have never heard of it before, you can visit Mormon .org. or lds .org.

Politics – Ode To The Moderates

I’m not a very political person, and that’s because I’m a political person. That is the most contradictory statement that a person can make, yet it’s rather profound and true.

Politics today are kindof… a joke. There are two big parties, Democrats and Republicans. Both of them seem to have a view on just about everything, and for the sake of being different from each other they both disagree on just about everything. So here I am, a person who has views and beliefs, and I like to stick to them. I live in Utah, a conservative state, where most everybody is a Republican. But let me tell you, not everything about the Republican party is something that I agree with, in fact there are quite a few things about the Democrat party which I think are great. Here’s my dilemma, I can’t then call myself Republican, because I don’t agree with every point that they’ve got out there, and I don’t think anybody else can really call themselves Republican either. If they do, they are lying to themselves. Same goes with Democrats. So this post is an ode to the people who just can’t make up their minds, the people who are fence sitters because they aren’t ignorant, but simply because they recognize to many points of disagreement with whatever choice they’ve got.

What’s the solution? Ron Paul, Jon Huntsman, the Green Party, whatever else out there that isn’t “main stream.” This will get me on so many different tangents, but I’ll just focus on this one: Once a political party has become large, popular, famous, whatever you want to call it… people invest in them, and in some ways a trade off begins to occur. That politician is no longer campaigning for their personal beliefs, but whatever corporation will give them the most $, or in other words, the most votes.

Which brings me to this last side thought – the voting system needs to have an overhaul. I don’t think that it’s right that a politician running for President will spend over $5 for your vote. Their campaigning is generally not to educate you on what their elected term will bring, it is to spend money on things like “Hope and Change.” What does that even mean? It means that it resonated well with focus groups. It means that they have social media experts around the clock, and public relations firms, and graphic designers, and everybody working on something that is going to generate a feeling that actually is distant from what their presidency is campaigning. They focus on everything they shouldn’t. What their campaigning does not reflect is what their political term will be.

Here’s how voting should go: Provide a few opportunities for these politicians to present their platforms, and focus on just their platforms. Get rid of their campaigning time, and let them run what they are elected to be running (for example, Obama is going to be focusing much more on his next election than running the USA soon…). If they get the information out to the citizens, let us make a wise decision. I don’t care about hearing that Romney is “weird” because he is Mormon. I don’t care about hearing if Obama might not have been born in the USA, stick to what these people will or won’t do for the country, and don’t waste money on everything else. I’m sure I’ll write more before the next election. But until then, I’m proud of those who are the fence sitters, because they just haven’t found what is best yet.
